In the silence of the night shift, I’m alone with the patient’s pain and my inner doubts, thinking….
Am I enough?
Hey, I’m Ashley, and nursing? Yeah, it’s tough.
Every day, I wake up with all the “what ifs” from the previous day’s shift playing on repeat in my head.
Did I make the right calls? What about that chat with Dr. Smith?
Needless to say, overthinking kicks in before my morning coffee does.
And this is all before I even put on my scrubs.
Losing patients hits hard and feeling the pain of all they’ve left behind…I don’t think the word “harder” can even begin to explain how difficult it gets.
Now imagine that happening on a day when your workplace is severely understaffed…
Double the work, double the grief, and double the strain on your mental health…crazy, right?
And then there are Night shifts! They mess with your head.
While the world sleeps, you work.
It isolates you leaving you beat.
Sometimes, I catch myself lost in my own thoughts wondering;
Am I even cut out for this job?
But despite being drained to death, guilt keeps you from taking a break, no matter how badly you need it.
And in all this pain, you have to keep your boundaries set.
Easier said than done, after all, we’re only humans… who are overworked day in and out.
Scientists say 7 out of 10 adults struggle with overthinking. But for us nurses, it’s a 10 on 10 every day.
It’s the same story every day… understaffing due to limited resources, endless working hours, demanding schedules, and constant burnout…
And that’s besides tackling grief and navigating unexpected twists!
But you can’t really complain, right?
It’s what we do, every day, no matter the cost.
I used to think; that no matter how exhausting it gets for me, my patients have it worse so I need to give 110% every day to make sure they’re taken care of.
There’s nothing wrong with going all out but it’s definitely WRONG to not seek professional help when no one is there to listen.
Talking to a therapist helped me realize the connection between being overworked, overthinking, and anxiety, especially in our line of work.
I tried self-help like meditation and writing down my thoughts, it seemed pretty straightforward.
But the busy nature of my job made it hard to keep up.
Without the right support or a set plan, these efforts were all but successful.
One night, as the monitors beeped endlessly, Laura walked up to me.
Despite being severely understaffed that night, she was calm, a presence of peace amid chaos.
Laura had faced the same struggles but somehow, she seemed unscathed by them.
“I’ve walked in your shoes, Ashley,” she said supportively.
She spoke of the crippling overthinking she had experienced for years and spoke of this resource that turned the tide for her.
It was called Neuromodus.
She started her journey with a simple wellness assessment.
From there, she received a personalized plan that brought back her peace of mind.
Curiosity, and perhaps a sliver of desperation, I decided to give it a shot.
After answering a series of thoughtful psychological questions on the website.
I got my personalized mental wellness plan.
It was tailored to address my unique ways of overthinking and anxiety.
With Neuromodus, I found strategies to calm my racing thoughts.
Each reminder from the app was a breath of fresh air, a moment of calm in the deafening clamor.
Neuromodus wasn’t a magic wand but a companion in my journey.
It wasn’t an instant fix but a guided, sustainable transformation.
From resources and exercises to practical tools, I seamlessly weave into my daily routines.
Of course, the night shifts, meetings with administration, the losses, and wins didn’t disappear.
But Neuromodus made them manageable.
Looking back at it today, I can navigate my highs and lows with a stable mind.
The app brought clarity and control back into my hands.
I’ve gone from surviving each shift to learning, growing, and finding a passion for nursing again.
As Laura had promised, Neuromodus became my ally.
It’s given me the resources to face each day with new strength and perspective.
Neuromodus is not just another app; it’s nothing short of a lifeline.
Each interactive session and personalized exercise transformed me from within.
I still deal with the uncertainties of the job. Still feel the emotional toll and the systemic pressures.
But their grip on my mental well-being has waned.
Now, I meet every challenge with a newfound resilience.
For every nurse facing the silent storm.
I just want you to know, I’ve been there and I know how it feels.
To the silent warriors, in every storm, Neuromodus your safe space.
Ashley, RN.
